A joint venture of Turner Construction Company, Ardmore Roderick, and Chris Woods Construction – known as the TAC Team – is leading the $700m Terminal Modernisation and Seismic Programme at Memphis International Airport, the biggest capital project in the airport’s history.

The multi-year programme will modernise the main terminal, boost seismic resilience and expand parking systems.

A notable part of the project is filling in a former transit tunnel under the terminal with cellular concrete, a lightweight, porous material designed to improve structural stability.

Once complete, the filled-in space will meet modern seismic standards and enable above-ground upgrades, Turner said.

Demolition of Concourse A started last month and is expected to finish early in 2026.

The terminal modernisation component is scheduled to begin in 2027 and conclude by 2030.

This will preserve the terminal’s iconic, mid-century architecture while expanding baggage and ticketing areas, and rearranging escalators and stairs.

A new administration building is in the design phase.
