A joint venture of STV and Turner Construction has won a contract from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide construction management services for the first phase of the Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement (MTBTR) in Manhattan.
The job is to build an interim, 900,000-sq-ft bus terminal with seven levels and new ramp infrastructure while the full terminal replacement is ongoing.
The interim facility will become a bus staging and storage facility when the new terminal starts operating.
The work involves complex demolition coordination and integration with existing transportation systems.
Christopher Zegler, Turner Construction’s vice president, said: “Delivering this project in the heart of Manhattan, while keeping the terminal fully operational, requires precise planning and disciplined execution.
“Our team is focused on safely advancing this critical first phase while keeping the region moving and laying the foundation for the modern, resilient, net-zero gateway for New York’s commuters and visitors.”
The contract amount has not been disclosed, but Turner has said the MTBTR is worth billions of dollars.
Less than a year ago, Tutor Perini won a $1.87bn contract to construct the Staging and Storage Facility and Ramp Structure components of the MTBTR.
The current Midtown Bus Terminal opened in 1950 and handles over 200,000 commuters each weekday.
