Turner & Townsend picked as guiding hand for Sydney Metro

UK-headquartered consultant Turner & Townsend has been appointed to provide project management office services (PMOS) to Sydney Metro, Australia’s biggest public transport project.

It will be supported by HKA, Deloitte Australia and LogiKal across all projects in the programme.

The PMOS contract is to last for up to six years and encompasses Sydney Metro City & Southwest, Sydney Metro West, Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport, as well as studies into future network expansion.

By 2030, the Sydney Metro network will be expanded to include 46 stations and more than 113km. With trains every two minutes in each direction, the new metro aims to double current capacity to 40,000 customers per hour.

When fully mobilised, the PMOS team will reach full capacity of over 80 programme and project controls professionals working across the contract packages.

Darren Munton, Head of Infrastructure for Australia and New Zealand said: "Our relationship with Sydney Metro and Transport for NSW extends over a decade since the inception of Sydney Metro. Over this time, we have worked tirelessly to build a reputation for delivering exceptional standards of service and working collaboratively with Sydney Metro and their key stakeholders.

"Through this most recent appointment, our combined PMOS team will further advance Sydney Metro’s capability, experience and global reputation by co-creating and embedding a world-class and digitally enabled PMOS to support the successful delivery of this mega programme of works."
