Italy’s Webuild has won a $600m contract from the partially state-owned Diriyah Company for a commercial and cultural development centre in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

Diriyah is on the northern periphery of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, with Webuild saying that the Diriyah Square Project will become the focal point of Saudi Arabia’s “Beverly Hills”.

Webuild’s scope of work for the 365,000-sq-m, retail and lifestyle project includes construction of more than 70 buildings and public spaces, the design of which is inspired by the principles of traditional Nadji architecture.

Diriyah Square will be located close to the At-Turaif Unesco world heritage site.

Pietro Salini, Webuild’s chief executive, said: “We are proud to be able to contribute to a project of such symbolic and strategic value for Saudi Arabia.

“Our presence in the Kingdom will be further strengthened by work that will have a positive impact on the area as well as the local community.”

In 2022 Webuild won a contract to build a 10,500-vehicle underground, multi-story car park at the Diriyah Gate Development. The new $600m contract brings the amount of work that Webuild has won in Diriyah to $2bn.
