World’s tallest residential building tops out in New York

New York’s Central Park Tower has topped out at 472m, making it the tallest residential building in the world.

Located on "Billionaire’s Row" – Manhattan’s West 57th Street – Central Park Tower was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture for Extell Development Company.

The project contains 179 two-to-eight-bedroom residences, which start on the building’s 32nd floor and range from 130 sq m to 1,626 sq m. Residential interiors are designed by Rottet Studio.

The tower has a glass and satin-finished stainless steel façade and cantilevers to the east at 91m from ground level, to provide views of Central Park for all north-facing apartments.

The tower will also contain the 4,645 sq m Central Park Club, and a 27,871 sq m, seven-storey Nordstrom department store at its base.

Gary Barnett, Extell Development Company’s chairman, said: "Central Park Tower is the pinnacle of development in New York and around the world.

"We would not be able to offer this level of design, quality and service without the contributions from the world’s most talented architects, engineers and designers."

A press statement from Extell says the apartment prices start at $6.9m.
