An eerie view from Alcatraz, the use of child labour in India and a symbol of the Soviet Union’s past industrial rush are just some of the photographic stories to reach the final of this year’s international Art of Building digital photography competition run by the Chartered Institute of Building.
15 shortlisted images fought their way past the scrutiny of this year’s judging panel which included photography critic and editor Sue Steward, award-winning photographer Matt Wain and Elaine Knutt editor of Construction Manager magazine.

Now that the judges have had their say, the CIOB is inviting everyone to decide which of the finalists should be awarded the prestigious title of ‘Art of Building Photographer of the Year’ and scoop a cash prize of £3,000. Voting is free and takes place via www.artofbuilding.org.
"There are absolutely no signs of the competition slowing up in either interest or quality," says CIOB Art of Building manager, Saul Townsend. "There is a real passion for the built environment and it has shone through in the photography entered this year. Now it’s up everyone to have their say on who should win."

The contest which celebrates creativity in the construction industry is now in its fourth year. Voting is now open and closes on 9 January 2014.
