Aecom grows Chinese links in alliance with Greenland

In yet another link-up with China, US infrastructure giant Aecom has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Greenland Construction Group Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of developer Greenland Group, to seek projects together in China and the world.

Last month Aecom hooked up with Chinese high-speed rail PPP pioneer Fosun for "transit oriented developments" work in China.

Aecom and Greenland have already collaborated on five developments.

In the US they delivered the mixed-use, $1.2bn Metropolis development in Los Angeles, of which the first phase opened in 2016.

Aecom is also building Greenland’s £800m, 67-storey Spire London, in Canary Wharf, planned to be the tallest residential development in Western Europe.

Greenland stopped work on that scheme earlier this year for a review amid concerns over escape stairwells in the highest floors.

"Aligning our capabilities and resources more closely through the structure of the MOU … enables us to provide a truly differentiated offering of integrated services, in a flexible and reliable manner," said Daniel McQuade, president of Aecom’s Construction Services group.

Mr. Tong Sun, executive vice president of Greenland Holdings Group, said: "With China’s domestic construction industry expanding further and Chinese construction companies seeking to participate in more projects around the world, we foresee great potential for our offerings now and in the years to come."
