Balfour Beatty has announced the appointment of a former Carillion managing director, Mark Davies, as managing director for its joint venture (JV) with Vinci on the UK’s high-speed rail project, HS2.
This JV already holds two contracts, together worth approximately £2.5bn, on sections of HS2, and is bidding for more.
Davies replaces Mark Cutler, who is leaving for a new opportunity outside Balfour Beatty. Cutler has led the JV since January 2017.
In July 2017, the JV was awarded Lot N1 and N2, between the Long Itchington Wood Green tunnel to Delta Junction / Birmingham Spur and from the Delta Junction to the West Coast Main Line tie-in, by HS2.
It is also bidding for further railways systems packages and Old Oak Common station, valued at a combined total of around £3.8bn.
A civil engineer with over 30 years’ experience in transport and energy sectors, Davies was with Alfred McAlpine when it was acquired by Carillion, and later rose to MD of Carillion’s UK infrastructure business.
"I am thrilled to be leading the Balfour Beatty Vinci joint venture team for HS2, to support the delivery of such an iconic major high speed rail project across the UK," he said.
