Gunmen kidnap German engineer in Nigeria

An armed gang of five men killed a policeman and abducted a German citizen on Monday (16 April) as they travelled to a construction site in the northern Nigerian state of Kano.

The men on motorcycles opened fire on a vehicle carrying workers to a construction site run by the firm, Dantata & Sawoe, in Kano city, reports Deutsche Welle.

The police escort was killed and the German national, an engineer named Michael Cremza, was abducted, reports Nigerian newspaper, Vanguard.

Kidnapping for ransom is common in parts of Nigeria.

In northeastern Nigeria the military is fighting Islamist Boko Haram militants.

The "manhunt of the abductors is ongoing," said Kano state police in a statement.

  1. This is most unfortunate to say the least.
I mean to say, when the country is in dire need of infrastructural development, and those who are in the process of helping in the realisation of such lofty goals are abducted, then there is a crisis.
It sends all the wrong signals for others willing to go there – this is a bad precedent!
