Mexican cement giant Cemex has launched its latest competition for construction start-ups under the slogan “Apply. Grow. Make Your Mark”.

The company hopes to support firms that can “lead the transformation of the construction industry”. Cemex Ventures will evaluate firms on:

  • Optimisation of supply chain management
  • Project design and engineering
  • The role of intelligent buildings and cities
  • Project and site management
  • Use of innovative materials and construction methods
  • Investment and financing.

Previous winners of the competition include building infromation modelling collaboration platform Ipsum and accident prevention software firm Prysmex. Cemex says finalists from previous years continue to work with the company.

Winners of the 2019 competition will be invited to Monterrey to present their projects to a panel that Cemex describes as “leaders in innovation, investment, and construction” on 18 July.

Gonzalo Galindo, Cemex Ventures’ chief executive, said: “We have a large offering for start-ups that enter our portfolio, through which we commit to build together a tailor-made path to achieve the best results.

“Beyond pure investment, we offer smart money to understand the needs of the entrepreneur and take advantage of our resources to enable them to lead the construction revolution.”
