Romania’s state highway company has selected a team of the local subsidiary of France’s Alstom and Greek conglomerate GEK Terna as contractor for two major railway rehabilitation projects in south west Romania worth a total of €992m.
Spanning a 83km section of the Craiova-Igiroasa line, Lot 1 involves a route between Craiova and Filiași costing €543m, with Lot 2 running from Filiași to Igiroasa, at a €449m budget.
Terna’s stake in the joint venture amounts to 69% for Lot 1 and 74% for Lot 2.
Technical work on the project is due to take place across the next 12 months, with construction then taking three years.
The team had previously been named as the provisional lowest bidder for the contract.
In 2025, Austria’s Porr signed a €428m design and build contract to renovate 33km of rail also in south west Romania.
