Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has appointed Lizi Stewart as managing director of its transportation division in the UK and Europe.

She joins from Arcadis, where she was managing director for highways and aviation.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Stewart has held senior roles in transportation, retail, financial services and property in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Atkins said.

In her new role, she will be responsible for driving growth in the rail, highways and local transport markets.

Philip Hoare, chief executive of SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business in the UK and Europe, said: "Lizi will lead our efforts as we focus on collaborating with clients in new and exciting ways by combining traditional engineering expertise with new technologies and agile, creative thinking.

"With the UK continuing to invest heavily in critical infrastructure, we’re well placed to capitalise on emerging opportunities as we look to help our clients shape the future of transportation."

She starts on 1 February and will be based at Nova North, SNC-Lavalin’s new European HQ in London.
