A joint venture between UK company Balfour Beatty and local minority-owned contractor Metcon will undertake a $650m expansion programme at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina.

The team will provide construction-manager-at-risk services for multiple projects, including creating 8,000 more parking spaces by 2025.

To handle the extra traffic, the team will revamp the intersection of the Aviation Parkway and National Guard Drive, starting in 2025.

A landside expansion programme will also be carried out for RDU’s Terminal 2 across three sub-phases, construction of which is also due to begin in 2025.

Trent Johnson, Balfour Beatty’s Raleigh operations director, said: “Balfour Beatty is honoured to continue our more than 10-year relationship with Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.”
