Chinese contractor to build $1.2bn subway in Manila, the Philippines

China Construction Second Engineering Bureau has won a $1.2bn contract to build an 8km subway line encircling the high-end business district of Makati, in the Philippines’ capital, Manila.

China Construction Second Engineering Bureau is a unit of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the world’s largest construction company, which was not itself subjected to the latest US sanctions.
Antonio Tiu, CEO of Philippine Infradev Holdings, the local company spearheading the project, told the Nikkei Asian Review that work on Makati City Subway would start "when travel restrictions are lifted". https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Transportation/Chinese-contractor-to-build-subway-for-Manila-s-Wall-StreetÂ
Developers are aiming for the subway to be finished by 2025.
Tiu told Nikkei that several state-owned enterprises expressed interest in the project, but that "China Construction Second Engineering gave the best terms for the contract."
It will be able to accommodate up to 700,000 passengers daily, said Nikkei.Â
The project is a joint venture with the Makati city local government, and will be partly financed by Chinese investors.
