Competition to redesign Game of Thrones’ castles announced

An architectural competition has been launched for fans of the HBO television show Game of Thrones, asking them to update its castles for the 21st century.

The event is being run by Non Architecture Competitions, who say: "We encourage fans and designers to reinvent the iconic castles, fortresses, and palaces of the show in today’s world."

It adds: "The credit scenes clearly represent the centrality of architecture in the setting of the plot. The series is today a major cultural phenomenon, and Non Architecture decided to celebrate this milestone in pop culture with a competition."

The idea is to submit a drawing that reinvents a building for the modern world. The design can be in any style, scale or location.

The competition will open on 1 June, with a submission deadline of 31 July. It will be open to all people, from every age and cultural background, working either individually or in groups, and the prize will be €1,500.
