Construction of Abu Dhabi Hyperloop “to start next year”

Construction of a Hyperloop transportation system in Abu Dhabi is set to begin in the third quarter of 2019, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, the company behind the project, said on Wednesday.

HyperloopTT will work with Lebanese design and engineering firm, Dar Al-Handasah, American architect Perkins + Will, Spanish engineer GPO Group and British cost management consultant Currie & Brown on the project.

The 10km line will be constructed at Aldar’s Seih Al Sdeirah landbank, close to the residential development Alghadeer and on the border with neighbouring emirate Dubai.

It is also close to the Expo 2020 site and Al Maktoum International Airport, however the plan is that the system will mainly move freight.

Bibop Gresta, HyperloopTT’s chairman, said: "Today’s announcement is a testament to the continued commitment and determination of all our partners, both within the UAE and abroad.

"As we move forward with the system we invite other interested organisations in the region and around the world to join us in making history."

Earlier this year, HyperloopTT signed an deal with local real estate firm Aldar Properties for the project. No end date for the scheme has yet been given.

Earlier this year the Chinese city of Tongren signed an agreement with HyperloopTT to develop a line. In Spain, HyperloopTT started work on its full-scale test track and displayed its Hyperloop capsule (pictured).
