The Polish megaproject Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has launched a tender for the design and construction of a railway station, tunnel and platform hall underneath the country’s new international airport, now gearing up for construction west of Warsaw.
The project involves building a 6km-long tunnel for railway lines that will connect with Warsaw to the east and Gdańsk, Katowice and Łódź to the west.
The tender is split into two sections, the first lot involving the design and construction of the station, plus the eastern and central sections of the tunnel. The second lot includes design and construction of the western section and junction area.
Both sections include optional scope for track systems and internal transport equipment for short-distance passenger and cargo movement.
CPK has previously launched tenders for lifts, escalators and moving walkways at its new airport, a delivery partner and a contractor to build the 450,000-sq-m terminal building, for which five teams are shortlisted.
Scheduled to open in 2032, the Foster + Partners and Buro Happold-designed airport will anchor the broader CPK project, which aims to overhaul transportation in Poland with the airport, highway upgrades and 2,000km of high-speed rail.

The goal is to make all major Polish cities no more than 2.5 hours’ travel time away from the new airport, to be sited some 50km west of Warsaw.
Foundation work on the passenger terminal is due to begin in 2026. The airport is expected to be running by 2032.
The deadline for the latest tender is 12 December 2025, with the contract due to be awarded in the first quarter of 2027. The project is due to be completed in 2031. Bids will be evaluated based on price and methodology.
More information on the tender is available via the European Union’s tender portal.

Dr. Filip Czernicki, CPK’s chief executive, said: “The station will form a fully integrated part of the terminal, enabling smooth and rapid transfers between rail and air.”
Piotr Rachwalski, CPK management board member for railway investments, said: “The CPK Airport Station and rail tunnel will feature a modern design and cutting-edge technologies, ensuring fast and convenient transfers for passengers.”
