Dutch architect UNStudio designs 3km cable car line for Gothenburg

Amsterdam-based designer UNStudio has unveiled a 3km-long cable car system for Gothenburg.

The line will contain four stations and six towers, and is one of a number of projects to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Sweden’s second city in 2021.

The line will connect Järntorget, a transport hub in the south, to three stations north of the river.

The system’s prefabricated concrete towers were inspired by the motion of Gothenburg’s shipyard cranes, and will be illuminated by spotlights to create what the architect describes as "urban beacons".

The stations will be fitted with photovoltaic panels.
