Japanese construction machinery makers Hitachi and Komatsu announced Friday (4 March) that they have halted exports to Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.

Hitachi Construction Machinery said it would gradually stop production at Hitachi Construction Machinery Eurasia LLC, its regional headquarters responsible for manufacturing and sales in Russia and the CIS, and would “halt exports from Japan to Russia until further notice, because of the potential risks associated with the business”.

The company said it is monitoring developments and “hopes for a peaceful resolution as soon as possible, just like everyone around the world”.

Komatsu also said it would “suspend shipments to Russia for the time being”, saying “the disruption in the supply chain surrounding Komatsu has become extremely difficult and the impact on the financial and economic situation remains uncertain”.

The company said it has set up an emergency task force headed by its President and CEO Hiroyuki Ogawa, and that “future measures are being discussed”.
