The government of Indonesia has begun the tender process for the construction of the planned $1bn Patimban Port in Subang, West Java.
Funded by a Japanese loan, the port is aimed at aims at strengthening logistics in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area.
Three work packages are being offered: terminal, breakwater and seawall, and connecting breach, an official said yesterday, reports the Jakarta Post.
Winning bidders would be announced in March 2018, with construction stating right away in early April, the official said.
"Because of limited human and financial resources, each company would only handle one package," said the official, named as Anwar, secretary to the transportation ministry’s Patimban Port construction team.
Negotiations between the Indonesian government and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency was ongoing, with a loan is expected to be signed in November.
He added that the Transportation Ministry would also put out a tender for a private operator to help run Patimban Port with state-owned port operator PT Pelindo II.
Anwar said the construction of the car terminal was expected to be completed in March 2019, while the Patimban project was expected to be completed in December 2019. (bbn)

This is great news for Jakarta and long overdue, I only hope that the scheme also has provisions for suitable infrastructure outside the new port to facilitate such development.
