Salini Impregilo Group will head a consortium of Italian companies to build the first section of a new coastal highway in Libya.
Salini Impregilo holds a 58% share in the contract to build 400km of the 1,700km highway from the Tunisian border to the Egyptian border.

Financed by the Italian government, the contract is worth $1.29bn and includes the construction of 12 bridges, eight service areas and six parking areas.
The coastal road project is part of a deal signed between the Italian and Libyan governments in 2008.
