Jacobs will design and Sundt Construction will build an expansion of the Interstate 10, in what will be southern Arizona’s largest highway construction project.
Arizona Department of Transportation’s $600m Kino to Country Club project aims to improve traffic flow and safety on the I-10 in Tucon, creating a critical link between major highways and local roads.
The scope of work includes expanding a 4.8km stretch of I-10 in both directions, plus reconstruction and removal of existing interchanges.
Galina Leiphart, Jacobs Transportation’s market growth director in west central, said: “The Kino to Country Club Road program is a pioneering effort and will bring best practices in alternative program delivery to Arizona.
“Working with the Arizona Department of Transportation and Sundt as our design-build partner, we’ll deliver a safer, more efficient transportation system that supports growth and connectivity across Arizona and improves traffic flow and safety in the local Tucson community.”
The project is the first to come out of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s I-10 and State Route 210 Transportation Design Concept Report that was completed in 2020.
Construction began in June 2025 and is due to be completed in 2028.
