The government of Moscow has announced that construction work will go ahead on the tallest residential building in Europe in the city’s International Business Centre.
The 405m "One Tower", designed by Sergey Skuratov Architects, was given planning permission in October last year, but no start date was given. At the Moscow Urban Forum on Friday, 5 July, Marat Khusnullin, the deputy mayor of Moscow, said site preparation was going ahead and work on the building would be completed in 2024.
The extremely narrow, 101-storey tower will be 33m higher than the Federation Tower, presently Moscow’s tallest structure. It will take the form of a 32m-wide isosceles triangle truncated on the side that faces the Moskva river. Sergey Skuratov said the form resembled the "wing of an aeroplane".

The first 12 storeys will contain a shopping centre and office space, with the upper section will be mostly residential.
The Russian capital already contains five of the 10 tallest buildings in Europe, all of which are above 300m. When complete One Tower will be the second tallest building in Europe, after St Petersburg’s 462m Lakhta Center, which is set to complete in 2019.
