Mott MacDonald has been chosen to provide owner’s engineering and advisory services on the Leopard Project, billed as one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage projects with a physical capacity of 300MW/1200MWh.

The client is Giga Storage, a Dutch developer of battery energy storage projects.

Sited on a former aluminium smelter site in the north of the Netherlands, Leopard will help balance the difference between supply and demand on the Dutch electricity grid.

The project is set for commissioning at the end of 2026.

Mott MacDonald will review the project’s design and documentation.

The firm has been involved in several battery energy storage projects, including the New Zealand Battery Project at Lake Onslow, the utility-scale Hokkaido Chitose Solar PV Plant in Japan, and Jupitor Power’s 200MW/200MWH Crossett facility in Crane County, Texas, USA.
