The new Perote-Xalapa highway and Xalapa Bypass in Mexico has opened.
This toll road in the state of Veracruz is 60km long and has four lanes, a 346-metre tunnel and a viaduct measuring 470 metres in length and 114 meters high.
The project, built by a consortium of Isolux Corsán and Ascendi Group-Mota Engil Group for the Government of Mexico, had a price tag of US$769m.
The highway provides a faster connection between the Gulf of Mexico and the highlands of Mexico.
The project has a concession period of 45 years.
