Big changes to UK immigration rules will likely have a major impact on construction, which relies on overseas workers.
The government says its reforms – which took effect on 22 July – are designed to cut net migration and upskill the domestic workforce.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called it “a complete reset of our immigration system to restore proper control and order”.
The new rules significantly raise the skill-level threshold for Skilled Worker visas, remove 111 eligible occupations, and punish sectors that do not have robust plans in place to develop home-grown talent.
With construction employers already facing a chronic skills shortage, will the changes help or hinder the development of the workforce?
In this episode of the 21CC podcast, CM People editor Nadine Buddoo and CM Digital editor Justin Stanton work through what it all means for the industry.
And they’re joined by UK immigration solicitor Kirsty Moore, from global law firm Fragomen, to explore how companies can comply and what the risks are for employers.
