Astaldi joint venture awarded $110m Romanian motorway

A joint venture between Italy’s Astaldi and Germany’s Max Bogl has been awarded a contract for the construction of a motorway from Brasov in northwest Romania to Oradea in the centre.

Each firm owns a 48.5% stake in the scheme, and Romanian designer Consitrans has the remaining 3%.

The client is the National Company of Motorways and National Roads of Romania; the works are 75% financed with EU funds and 25% financed by the Romanian government.

The contract refers to the design and construction of 18km of motorway sections including three viaducts, five overpasses, three flyovers and a motorway interchange.

Works will begin in May, and have a duration of 16 months, of which four months will be occupied by the design and 12 for construction.

Astaldi has been active in Romania for over 20 years. It has built more than 100km of railways and metros, 250km of roads and motorways and two international airports.
