The government of New South Wales has awarded a US$263m contract to Australian firm AW Edwards to build Sydney Metro’s Crows Nest Station.
The station will be the first stop for metro services leaving Chatswood towards central Sydney when the Sydney Metro City & Southwest extension opens in 2024. Crows Nest is one of six being built on the line.
AW Edwards has experience in Sydney rail projects, building four stations as part of the former Epping-to-Chatswood line, which now forms part of the Metro North West Line.
A delivery partner for the future over-station developments above Crows Nest will be selected through a separate tender process
Andrew Constance, the government’s transport minister, said: "Crows Nest Station will transform how customers travel, with air-conditioned, driverless trains every four minutes in each direction in peak times.
"Hundreds of jobs will be created throughout the life of the project, with more than 300 workers on site during peak phases of construction activity."
A 25m deep excavation has already been completed at the constriction site, with work due to begin in January 2021 and complete in 2023.
