BAM chosen bring 14,000 tonnes of Jarlsberg cheese to Ireland

The Irish subsidiary of Dutch contractor BAM has been chosen to build a Jarlsberg cheese production facility in the village of Mogeely, County Cork.

The €25m facility will contain warm and cool rooms for the phases of cheese maturing, with super flat floors designed for easy forklift access.

A brine room will be built with a gantry crane, and other specialist equipment in the facility will include mould presses and vats for the production of curd and whey.

The development will produce 14,000 tonnes of cheese a year and will be located on a greenfield site close to the existing Dairygold Mogeely site.

The client for the project is the Tine cooperative, Norway’s largest producer, distributor and exporter of dairy products, which is jointly owned by 10,478 farmers.

Construction of the cheese factory will begin this month and is due to be completed in November 2019.
