An Australian joint venture of Cimic subsidiary CPB Contractors and Downer has been awarded roles on western Australia’s Metronet rail system in Perth.
The NEWest Alliance will work on:
- Yanchep Rail Extension, a 14.5km extension for the Joondalup Line, with new stations to be built at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep;
- Thornlie-Cockburn Link, which will fill a 14.5km gap in Perth’s eastern rail corridor by connecting the Mandurah and Armadale lines, with two new stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road, and upgrades at Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.
Work on the two projects will create an estimated 3,000 jobs and, when operational, will improve access for residents of Perth’s northern and southern suburbs.

Work on NEWest Alliance’s contract will begin this year and is due to be completed in 2023.
