Foster + Partners refines masterplan for mixed-use development in Atlanta

UK architect Foster + Partners have revealed its updated masterplan for Centennial Yards, a 50-acre mixed-use development in Atlanta, Georgia.

The scheme is part of a $5bn project that aims to turn car parks and former railyards into a walkable environment.

The plan adds pedestrianised routes and landscaped plazas to link attractions such as the basketball arena of the Atlanta Hawks and the Mercedes-Benz multipurpose stadium, as well as a new Metropolitan Atlanta mass transit station.

Armstrong Yakubu, Foster + Partners’ senior partner, said: "We believe this project is a unique opportunity to stitch the fabric of this great city together with state-of-the-art buildings, amenities and public spaces that will transform this part of Downtown Atlanta.

"Furthering the city’s wider renewal efforts, the new park adjacent to Five Points Station exemplifies our sustainable focus. We look forward to working with Centennial Yards Company on this rare opportunity to create a truly forward-looking plan for Atlanta."
