The Australian joint venture behind Hadrian X, the bricklaying robot unveiled in 2015, has disbanded, leaving the technology looking for a home in America and Europe’s housebuilding markets.
Fastbrick Australia was formed between robotic technology company FBR and Brickworks Building Products. According to Brickworks, the break-up was the result of uncertainty in the Australian economy and residential construction market due to the pandemic.
Despite the slowing demand in Australia, FBR says that during the coronavirus shutdown there has been increased interest in Hadrian in the northern hemisphere, owing to the lack of human and imported labour.
Mike Pivac, FBR’s chief executive, said: "The mutual decision to discontinue the Fastbrick Australia joint venture was made in the context of what is in the best commercial interests of each of FBR and Brickworks in the current unique circumstances.
"Going forward, FBR intends to focus on deployment in large overseas markets with a compelling use-case for our technology. The dissolution of Fastbrick Australia frees up equipment and resources, and will enable FBR to accelerate the progress of its global opportunities."
