Hitachi elevator breaks the world speed record in Guangzhou

Japanese engineer Hitachi has received the Guinness World Record for the world’s fastest elevator after one of its products recorded a speed of 75.6km/h at the Guangzhou Finance Centre in China.

The elevator, which can hold 21 people, broke the record after it moved from the ground to the 95th storey, a distance of 440m, in 42 seconds. The test was conducted in June 2017.

Hitachi won a contract in 2012 to provide 151 elevators and escalators for the centre, a 530m-tall development in Zhujiang New Town Central Business District.

The Guinness World Record website notes the previous record holder recorded a speed of 73.8km/h.
