Los Angeles International names winning consortium for $4.9bn monorail

A team of Fluor, Balfour Beatty, Bombardier and Hochtief, together with ACS subsidiaries Flatiron and Dragados, have been chosen to build a 3.6km "automated people mover" at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The contactors are part of the LINXS consortium, which will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the $4.9bn contract across its 30-year life span.

The transport system will connect passengers with airline terminals, a car rental facility, pickup and drop-off locations and the regional transit system.

The financing structure includes $1.3bn in private activity bonds and $270m in bank debt and private partner equity.

The contract contains milestone payments for design and construction progress and possible incentives for both operations, maintenance and debt service.

Construction is due to start in the summer of 2018 and be completed in 2023.
