Mott MacDonald to manage Foxconn’s new tower in Shanghai

UK engineering consultancy Mott MacDonald has been appointed by high-tech manufacturer Foxconn (Shanghai) Ltd. to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for its new $136m (CNY850m) Shanghai Foxconn Plaza in Shanghai, China.

Located in the financial centre by the Huang Pu River, the 50,000 sq m plaza will be the headquarters of Hong Hai Technology Group. 

It will comprise 21 stories and four annex levels, as well as a 32,000 sq m basement made up of four floors. There will also be parking spaces for 500 vehicles.

Sam Hung, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: "The Shanghai Foxconn Plaza is targeting both LEED platinum medal and national two-star green building certificates. The design includes sustainable features such as a double curtain wall façade, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, solar panels and geothermal heat exchange."

Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2017.
