UK-based architect Pascall + Watson has won a role on the £600m redevelopment of Stansted international airport in Essex.
Work on the project includes the construction of a 34,000 sq m arrivals terminal, as well as the expansion of the check-in, security and retail areas. There will also be a new airside parking for coaches, aircraft stands and taxiway infrastructure.
The existing arrivals and departures building will be reconfigured into a departures-only terminal.
The terminal will contain what Pascall + Watson describes as a "floating" modular sky-lit roof above a "generous double height space".
Pascall + Watson was awarded the contract by MAG, the Manchester Airports Group and owner of Stansted Airport.
Paul Willis, Stansted transformation programme delivery director, said: "Pascall + Watson has already played a key role in the Stansted Transformation Programme, so we’re delighted to announce that it has been appointed to develop the design for phases two and three. Â
"Over the next five years, we’re investing £600m in Stansted, which will see the biggest upgrade in passenger facilities at the airport since the terminal opened in 1991.
"This investment will transform the experience for millions of passengers and help unlock Stansted’s spare runway capacity, providing passengers with a wider choice of airlines and destinations."
