RLB’s South African JV secures its first big job

A new alliance between UK-based quantity surveyor Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) and South African counterpart Pentad has won its first major contract on a new headquarters for South African energy firm Sasol.

Construction of the head office in Sandton, South Africa will cost $243m and will consolidate various Sasol business units in one place.

The 150,000 sq m project will consist of 10 floors and nine basement levels.

It will be developed by Alchemy Properties and designed by Paragon Architects and aims to achieve a 5 Star Green rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa.

Pentad director Frans de Jager, said the prestigious project "demonstrates the strength of the enhanced knowledge, expertise and resource that our two organisations can deliver to the marketplace."

RLB CEO Lance Taylor said: "This is a truly significant win for the new alliance. We know that the South African market is tough but it is thriving as this first project bears testament to."

Property and cost consultant RLB confirmed its alliance with Pentad in April 2013.
