The US subsidiary of Swedish contractor Skanska has signed a $93m contract to construct a veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences complex at Texas A&M University.

Skanska will also refurbish and expand a small animal hospital on the site.

The 30,700m2 veterinary centre will offer up to 500 students state-of-the-art classrooms, teaching and laboratory space. It will be constructed at A&M’s main campus in the town of College Station, east central Texas.

The project is to start this month and is due to finish in April 2016.

Skanska has already completed work on the campus including the agriculture and life sciences complex and the liberal arts and humanities building.

Balfour Beatty recently reached financial close on phase one of a $104m student residence project at the campus.
