31 July 2013

UK-based firm Turner & Townsend has been appointed to assist with the delivery of a massive residential construction project in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The $15.3 billion Gutenborg project has been designed to replace the city’s Soviet-era buildings and will be Russia’s most extensive residential construction project in modern history.

In May another British firm, Mace, was appointed delivery partner to the project.

SPb Renovation appointed Turner & Townsend to provide cost modeling, option appraisal, procurement support and systems development to its selected partners.

Development will take place in 22 sites across St Petersburg, involving the construction of 1,200 new buildings and the redevelopment of over 900 hectares, providing homes for 450,000 residents and is set to run over 15 years.

Commenting on the appointment, Turner & Townsend Russia/CIS managing director, Paul Grace, said: "We are delighted to be involved in this significant project, which will begin with the transformation of a 65 hectare site on the banks of the River Neva."

Construction will begin later this year.
