Watch explosives bring down this giant smoke stack in Poland

ArcelorMittal Poland has used 33kg of explosives to bring down "Fat Berta", a redundant, 80m-tall smoke stack in the Nowa Huta district of Kraków.

With a circumference at its widest point of 32.5m, the chimney was built 50 years ago to serve a sinter plant that has not been in use since 2012, and is now being decommissioned.

ArcelorMittal said the operation created 2,200 tons of rubble, requiring 110 truckloads to carry away. In all, around about 60,000 tons of scrap will be recovered from the plant’s decommissioning.

Bringing the chimney down required 15 demolition specialists and four excavators, the largest weighing 50 tons, to clear the site.
