Work completed on Mad Architects’ Beverly Hills residence with the US’ “largest living wall”

Work has finished on Gardenhouse, a residential building designed by Beijing-based Mad Architects, which boasts the US’ "largest living wall".

The development, on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, is inspired by the Shanshui City school of design philosophy, which aims to enrich city-dwellers’ spiritual and emotional experiences by bringing them closer to nature.

The exterior living wall is complemented by features, such as Japanese onsen-style wet rooms, open-concept floor plans, and a central reflecting pool.

Ma Yansong, Mad Architects’ founder, said: "Gardenhouse represents a unique opportunity to impact not only the architecture of Los Angeles but to introduce a new paradigm of living on the West Coast where humans are more emotionally connected to nature, particularly in high-density cities like Los Angeles.

"We are elated to see Gardenhouse reach completion and hope that future residents will appreciate the conveniences of living in harmony with nature."

Eighteen properties at Gardenhouse are available to buy, prices start from $3.8m.

Los Angeles firm Gruen Associates acted as executive and landscape architect for the project.
