UK headquartered firm Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has partnered with Hyperloop Italia to work on the design of its next phase of development.

It is understood ZHA is looking at a station design for a site whose identity has not been disclosed, as well as developing a “sustainable concept” for integrating a hyperloop system into the rural and urban environment.

Hyperloop Italia has said one possible route is between Milan and the Malpensa airport, where the ultra-fast system could cut journey times from 40 minutes to 10.

Patrik Schumacher, ZHA’s principal, said the aim of the collaboration was “to marry transformative architecture, engineering and urban planning with the most efficient and sustainable transport network”.

“We share Hyperloop Italia's multidisciplinary approach which combines innovations in design and operational technologies with advances in ecologically sound materials and construction practices; enabling us to deliver future-resilient projects that are spatially inventive, structurally efficient and environmentally sustainable.”

Bibop Gresta, Hyperloop Italia chief executive and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies co-founder, said: “We are certain that ZHA is the right partner to allow Hyperloop Italia to promote design excellence in architecture. Their decades of global experience in civic and transport infrastructure will be essential to ensure that Hyperloop Italia's transport hubs are intuitive to navigate, sustainable and fully integrated within their urban contexts.”
