A design by Dutch architect UNStudio has been selected for the "Centre Culturel Dédié Au 7è Art" in Paris. The centre will contain training and production facilities for the film industry, a rooftop cinema, multimedia art displays, restaurants, cafes and film archives.
The three structures are themed by film genres, and are made up of three intertwined blocks that look something like scattered shipping containers clad in a perforated façade of weathered steel.
The façade allows maximum heat gain and reduced carbon emissions and was chosen to evoke large scale landscape sculptures.
From the roof of the centre visitors will have a 360° view of Paris’ skyline and the rest of the €3.1bn EuropaCity.
The Centre Culturel will be located in Bjarke Ingels Group’s "masterplan; BIG’s "Rolling Hills" will overtop to provide shelter from the elements.
