Ramboll chosen for Tromsø airport expansion

Danish consulting engineer Ramboll has been selected to deliver an expansion for northern Norway’s Tromsø airport.

Ramboll will work with Nordic Office of Architecture, a subsidiary of Norwegian construction engineer Norconsult, on the project, which includes all architecture and engineering services.

The development will lead to "increased capacity and better facilities", according to Ramboll.

At present, Tromsø airport is owned and operated by the state-owned Avinor, and has two terminals.

Ramboll say the airport "constitutes a central connection point between the north and south of Norway and an entry point to the world north of the Arctic Circle".

Thorgeir Landevaag, Avinor director, said: "The project is of high priority because of the continued traffic growth in the northern region, and we look forward to increased capacity and better facilities in Tromsø."

Work on the project has already begun and is due to be completed in 2022.

Ramboll has recently won work in the UK, the Falkland Islands and India.
