Swedish builder Skanska has won a contract worth around $40m (NOK 335 million) to build a new, 1.4-km-long tunnel in Vestland County, Norway.

Vestland County Council is the client and the aim of the Fv. 500 Folgefonntunnelen-Årsnes project is landslide protection of the road between Folgefonn tunnel (pictured) and Årsnes in Kvinnherad municipality.

Work includes the tunnel and road improvements.

The project specified early contractor involvement and Skanska has developed the project with Vestland council during the last year, Skanska said.

Construction starts this month and is expected to finish in February 2024.
