Strabag consortium to build Mercedes engine plant in Poland

A consortium led by Austrian construction group Strabag is to build an engine plant for German car maker Mercedes-Benz in Jawor, western Poland.

The €61m contract will be carried out with Polish companies TKT Engineering and Elektromontaz-Poznan, with Strabag holding a 70% stake in the partnership.

The team will build a 96,000 sq m production hall, and a 1,900 sq m turnkey office building.

Thomas Birtel, Strabag chief executive, said: "This will be Mercedes-Benz’s first engine plant in Poland. Four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be produced here for Mercedes-Benz cars.

"We are very pleased that we can contribute our more than 30 years of experience in Poland."

Construction is due to be completed in January 2019.
