Nashville’s new Nissan Stadium, the future home of the Tennessee Titans National Football League team, topped out on Friday 21 November with the placement of the final beam in its steel frame.

It’s being built by the Tennessee Builders Alliance, a joint venture of Turner Construction Company, Aecom Hunt, Polk & Associates Construction and ICF Builders & Consultants.

The Alliance broke ground in March 2024 and is working toward its opening in spring 2027.

Crews have placed more than 12,400 beams, totalling 18,000 tons of steel, and have poured some 98,000 cubic yards of concrete for the 1.8 million sq ft stadium.

They will soon start installing its translucent, ETFE roof system while continuing work on the enclosure and interior buildout.

The stadium will have 360-degree outdoor porches with skyline views and a 12,000 sq ft community space for public use.

It will host Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University football games, concerts and civic events, and will be capable of accommodating Super Bowls, Final Fours and college football playoff games.

Strong social inclusion indicators

“Seeing this building come to life … is remarkable,” said Burke Nihill, president and CEO of the Tennessee Titans.

“From day one, we imagined the experience for our fans – a space that captures the soul of Nashville and Tennessee and is built for our community.”

Around 1,800 workers are on-site each day.

The project promotes social inclusion. Some 18.5% of hours worked have been done by residents of Nashville’s “Promise Zones” – areas affected by poverty and crime.

More than $110m in contracts have gone to nearly 100 women- and minority-owned businesses.

And it has connected locals with construction careers. The “Titans Construction Training Camp” has so far graduated 96 participants, with over three-quarters receiving job offers.

Meanwhile in Illinois …

Adding to Turner’s stadium-building track record, earlier this month the company also topped out Ryan Field, a 35,000-seat, $850m stadium at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, which it’s building in a joint venture with Walsh Construction.

It replaces a former stadium and will be home to the university’s Wildcats college football team. It will also host athletics, winter festivals, film screenings and youth sports events.

It’s due to open in 2026.
