A joint venture between Turner Construction and Walsh Construction has topped out construction of Ryan Field, a privately funded, 35,000-seat, $850m stadium in Evanston, Illinois.

Taking the place of the current Ryan Field, the new stadium will be home to Northwestern University’s Wildcats college football team and will host athletics competitions, plus winter festivals, film screenings and youth sports events.

It will feature an open-air multi-level seating bowl, administrative areas, event staff offices, broadcast facilities and locker rooms.

The surrounding area will house a community park and public green spaces.

The joint venture has already completed demolition of the existing stadium.

Pat Ryan Jr, Ryan Sports Development’s chief executive, said: “It’ll be the most intimate stadium in America. That’s because of the incredible engineering that went into it, but also the incredible craftsmanship.”

Ryan Field is due to open in 2026. It has been designed to achieve LEED Gold-Certified standards.
