UK engineer and asset manager Amey has re-entered the Australian market through its acquisition of Premise, a multidisciplinary consultancy it has bought for an undisclosed sum.

The move is part of what Amey calls its “long-term commitment to international expansion”.

Founded in Brisbane, Premise specialises in the water, transport, renewable and environmental sectors.

Amey chief executive Andy Milner called the acquisition “an exciting opportunity to join forces with a company so deeply embedded in Australia’s regional communities”.

Amey was previously owned by Spain’s Ferrovial, who in 2019 had to slash the company’s value from €877m to €103m, following a long legal dispute with Birmingham council over a £2.7bn, 25-year road and maintenance contract. Amey was sold to private equity firms in 2022.
