Ground has been broken on “The Grid”, an Athenian office project designed by Foster + Partners and developed by local company Noval Property in association with Cypriot investor Brooklane Capital.

The 1.6ha development is located in the Marousi suburb of northwest Athens, on the way to the city’s airport. It takes the form of a city block, with a landscaped central courtyard surrounded by four and five-storey modular buildings, pierced by four roads.

Each floor will have planted terraces, and there will be green roofs with photovoltaic panels.

Darron Haylock, a partner in Foster, said: “We are delighted to see building work starting on site. The Grid will play an important role in Marousi’s regeneration, activating its surroundings and drawing new business to the district.

“We are providing a rich mix of flexible workspaces and amenities, including green spaces that will reinvigorate the area.”

US consultant Hill International is acting as construction and project manager.
